tokyo date recommendations
It’s hard to describe just how much I love Tokyo. It can sometimes feel as though choosing where to go is near impossible, especially when planning the perfect date. These, however, are a handful of places that I know and love; as a chef and food obsessive, I generally tend towards the epicurean.
※ The Andaz Hotel, Toranomon
I love this hotel for the location, unbeatable view, spa, rooftop bar, and dark corridors. link
Or - I’m yet to (but would desperately love to) visit The Aman
※ Iroha love hotel, Roppongi
Beautiful, and highly convenient for a brief encounter. link (Japanese only- best to run through google translate)
※ Sushi Tokami, Ginza
I believe that it’s a myth that sushi needs to be a silent, reverent affair - and that a good sushi omakase is just as much about chemistry with the chef as it is about quality (and Tokyo is spoiled for sushi quality). Here the sushi is heavenly, the chefs are great fun, and many of them speak English. link
※ Kanda, Roppongi (Kaiseki)
By far the best meal I’ve had in my life. It wasn’t cheap, but I’d go again in a heartbeat (and as it’s one of the few 3-star spots in Tokyo that is easy to reserve online, it makes for a very good date location, in my opinion). link
※ Matsuya department store, Ginza
Strolling together through the basement food hall here is, I think, the perfect way to explore Japanese cuisine and ingredients; their gift cards are also a good way to make me very, very happy. link
everywhere else
If you’re interested in some more personalised recommendations, then as well as a calendar full of exhibitions, I keep a detailed map of Tokyo izakayas, formal gardens, cocktail bars, beautiful shrines, sex shops, and a hundred other gorgeous (and private) places. Plus, I can be your translator in all those little hidden spots (and I’ll do things your concierge most definitely won’t…)

At the moment, I am living a somewhat nomadic life; I've come to realise that making memories - preferably shared ones - is currently much more important to me than an ample wardrobe, or expanding my perfume collection. I am, however, always delighted and surprised at the prospect of being asked which gifts I love. So here goes:
